What each length gives you.
| Length | What fits | Our journey |
|---|---|---|
| 3–4 days | One area: the Chobe riverfront, or one Delta camp | Chobe Introduction |
| 5–6 days | One region in depth, or two areas at a push | Kalahari & Meerkats, The Zebra Migration |
| 7 days | Two contrasting areas, e.g. Delta and Kalahari | Delta & Desert |
| 8 days | A full mobile camping circuit | Okavango Under Canvas |
| 10 days | Three or four camps, by light aircraft | The Great Okavango |
| 14 days | Every major ecosystem | The Grand Botswana |
Four days or fewer.
Enough for one area done well. The obvious choice is the Chobe riverfront from Kasane: direct flights from Johannesburg, river cruises and game drives, and Victoria Falls an hour away. Alternatively, three nights in one Delta camp gives you a real taste of the water. Trying to fit two areas into four days usually means more time in aircraft than on safari.
Seven days.
The most popular length, and the point where Botswana starts to show its variety. Spend three or four nights in the Delta and three in a contrasting area: Chobe for elephants, the Kalahari for desert and stars, or a land camp in Moremi or Khwai for predators. Delta & Desert runs at all four of our levels, from mobile camping to exclusive use.
Ten days.
Our recommendation for a first safari if you can manage it. Ten days fits three or four camps, each with three nights or close to it, without rushing: a Delta water camp, a seasonal floodplain camp, the Linyanti woodland and the Savuti marsh, for example, all linked by light aircraft.
Fourteen days.
Enough to see almost every major ecosystem: the Delta, the Linyanti, Chobe, the Makgadikgadi and the Kalahari. At this length we often slow down, with four nights somewhere special, or add Victoria Falls or Cape Town.
Adding Victoria Falls or Cape Town.
Add two nights for Victoria Falls, which fits most naturally next to Chobe. Cape Town is a short flight away via Johannesburg and works well as a finish. Count each international connection as most of a day.
How length affects cost.
Our rates are per person per day, so cost rises with length, but not only with it: season and level matter as much. Our indicative trip totals show what 4, 7, 10 and 14 days cost at each level.
